Treasurer - Payment Methods
Cash and
personal checks are accepted methods of payment. Currently,
Laramie County does not accept credit cards because unlike
private sector merchants, the county treasurer’s office
cannot absorb the merchant fees into the cost of doing business.
However, the use of VISA, MasterCard and American Express
credit cards is available through a third party provider,
Official Payments Corporation. The provider charges a convenience
fee to the customer for the use of the card at the treasurer’s
office. The fee is approximately 3% of the transaction amount.
The Laramie County Treasurer does not receive any portion
of this convenience fee.
If a taxpayer’s check is returned to this office by the bank, an additional
$15.00 fee is collected when making payment. Payment of a returned check must
be in cash, certified funds or credit card. Also, if the returned check is
for the payment of sales tax, payment must be received within two weeks to
avoid increased costs in interest and penalties. If a taxpayer or vehicle registrant
passes more than one returned personal check at the treasurer’s office,
cash or credit card will be the only acceptable payment method thereafter. |
