Inmates in the Laramie County Detention Center may mail as many letters as they want, provided they can pay for the postage. They can buy stamps, and writing materials through commissary.
Incoming mail is opened, inspected for contraband, and any content that might threaten security.
Mail that does not meet the requirements for acceptance into the facility will be returned to the sender or may be placed in the inmates property.

Parcels are generally not accepted. Due to limited storage space the facility seldom accepts additional property items for inmates. Inmate needs may be addressed with items purchased through the facility commissary.
Family and friends may deposit money in an inmate's cash account by mail, or by coming to the Laramie County Detention Facility. Currency will not be accepted through the mail, it will be returned to sender. Personal checks will not be accepted at any time for placement on inmate accounts, or for the payment of bond.
The following types of deposits are acceptable by mail, or in person at the Detention Facility: U.S. money orders, cashier's checks, certified checks, U.S. government checks, and checks from other corrections/detention facilities.
All incoming bank checks and money orders must have the name of the remitter (person sending the money) written legibly on the front of the monetary instrument. If the name of the person sending the money is not written legibly on the front, the money will be returned to sender. The detention facility does not accept cash for placement on inmate accounts.
A Cashier Machine is located in the outer lobby of the Sheriff's Department,for money acceptance to inmate funds, NO CASH OR MONEY ORDERS ARE ACCEPTED AT VISITATION.
Both cash and credit/debit card can be accepted through this machine. There is a transaction fee of $2.75. Cash is accepted in amounts over $5.00. The machine will not accept one dollar bills at all.

Cash, county, or city bonds will be accepted by the booking office during non-court business hours. Bonds posted at the Laramie County Detention Facility must be in the exact amount required for bond – change is not available. No coins will be accepted for bond. Felony bonds, District bonds, percentage bonds, or cash surety bonds will not be accepted at the Laramie County Detention Facility.
During court business hours, all bonds must be posted at the appropriate court.
Inmate property will only be accepted and/or released between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday (excluding holidays). No property will be accepted or released after these hours, or on weekends.
Inmates sentenced to a state facility must immediately, upon sentencing, make arrangements to have all property removed from the Detention Facility prior to transport to any state institution. Inmates sentenced to state facilities may have property released Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Due to Covid-19 concerns we are currently only doing distance video visits. At this time there are no in person visits  for inmates in this facility.
Each inmate is allowed only one fifteen (15) minute "first come - first served" once a week with a maximum of 3 visitors to include children/juveniles on scheduled visitation days.
Visitors must have a valid, government issued photo ID indicating their date of birth. A parent with a valid current identification card must accompany their children during visitation. Juveniles must have a birth certificate and/or juveniles in Junior/Senior High must have a valid identification card if they are visiting their legal parent or guardian. If a juvenile is not visiting their legal parent or guardian, then their legal parent or guardian MUST accompany them.
Visitors with children must control them in the main lobby and visitation areas. Failure to do so may result in denial of visitation privileges.
Extended visits for visitors traveling over 100 miles one (1) way on the day of the visit will be (30) thirty minutes. Extended visits will be limited to no more than one (1) per week with all other visits that week being limited to the 15-minute limit.
Visits will not be split. Visitors may only visit the inmate they signed up to visit.
No one under the influence of alcohol/drugs will be granted a visit.
Inmates released from the Detention Facility must wait 7 days before being allowed to visit another inmate.
You may communicate only with the inmate you are signed up to visit. You may not attract the attention of other inmates in the pod.
Juveniles under the age of 15 years cannot be left unattended in the lobby. Disruptive behavior by any child will require the parent or guardian, and the child to leave the Detention Facility.
ALL personal property of visitors, including but not limited to: hats, jackets, purses, cell phones, pagers, fingernail clippers, pocket knives, lighters, cigarettes, cameras, and recording devices must secured in lockers provided, or taken out to the visitors automobile.
NO property may be left at the visitation desk, or left unattended in the lobby.
Smoking, eating, and drinking are prohibited in the visitation areas.

Privileged visitors are attorneys of record, counselors, mental health, medical, etc., requesting to talk to the inmate regarding professional business. Professional visiting hours are 8:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. through 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. through 10:00 p.m. Professional visitors will sign in with Central Control, listing the name and location of all inmates that they will be visiting. After receiving their ID card, all professional visitors will be cleared through the booking officer.
Professional visitors must present a valid, state issued identification along with valid professional credentials at Central Control prior to being authorized for visitation.
If you are aware of a specific threat to the personal safety of an inmate of the Laramie County Detention Facility please notify a staff member so that appropriate follow up may be conducted and steps taken to protect the inmate.
